Secretary of State Colin Powell holding his namesake
Caricature's Colin Powell, born on the first anniversary on 9/11, became CFA Top Cat in 2004. When the US State Department discovered that this prize-winning cat was named in honor of the Secretary, we were invited to bring Colin (the cat) to a full blown press conference in recognition of his achievement. The conference was held on Friday the thirteenth of August, 2004. During the ceremony, the Secretary honored our request that he name Colin the cat's first son, who along with his sister, was born on the Fourth of July. Secretary Powell named the son "Ralph Bunche" after another great contributor that worked with the State Department and was awarded a nobel peace prize for his efforts in bringing peace to the Mideast ending the first of many conflicts that have followed the creation of Israel.
Mrs. Powell also graciously agreed to let us name the little girl after her.
We wish to express our gratitude to the Powells. The press release did a great deal to help promote the Cat Fanciers Association and the Bombay breed. But most importantly, it showed the World how much fun and affection a cat can contribute, even in the world of International events.
So, on the next Friday the Thirteenth, we can recall that good luck and black cats go together here in the good old USA as they do in so many other countries.
Any questions?
